It is said that every new day brings with new experiences and encounters. That saying isn’t wrong at all. So as I was on my way this morning on my usual job hunt/interviews, I boarded this particular bus heading to Marine Lagos from Mile 2. As we were about 20 minutes into the journey, we discovered a very serious traffic on getting to the bridge. This particular traffic congestion didn’t show any sign of clearing out even in the next one hour. The passengers began their usual complains, before they had exhausted themselves the driver stepped out opening the passenger’s entrance door and shouted “This is the end of the journey” returning 1/3rd of the fares had had collected earlier from the passengers.
From there my trekking journey began. I had to use my two long legs (aka “Legalis Benz” lolz…) to complete the journey, I was lucky I was in the company of other trekkers as we forged ahead to Marina Lagos. As I was hurriedly trekking due to the fact that I had a pending interview seeking my attention, one of the guys I was legging with said, “This Naija nawa” I don’t know why an individual will have money in his hands and is ready to use it but will have no other choice but to trek very long distances. Another highlighted further “It’s the Nigerian way”. Further into the journey I was able to observe two things.
Sorry for digressing, I just wanted to tell a little story before I could drive home my point. No harm intended!
My observations being that…
1). As I was walking I noticed that I was moving upright balancing wholly on the sole of my foot, on observing this what came to my mind was that no individual will be able to move forward accomplishing great feats if he refuses to leave his comfort zone. You cannot propel forward or gain more ground quickly if you are still in a balanced position, you have to always be ready to move. I began using my toes like a runner does, on doing this I felt lively again increasing my speed.
2). Ocean waves moving in different directions and speed at the same time. As I was crossing over the bridge, I looked into the ocean and observed how the water was being moved by the waves across different directions and speed at the same time. This also got me thinking about our individualities, every individual in this world possess different characteristics which makes us distinctly unique in our own special way. The ocean is just one body but was still being carried along in different directions at the same time, the same thing can be said about humans. Human beings are a collection of individuals with different thoughts, temperaments, ideas, experiences, insights, objectives and goals. But are all the same a part of a larger body. Even though we have our own personal individuality coupled with the environment we belong in, we cannot survive (live) on our own without any help from another. Our individualities are what makes us unique, but when individualities clashes with one another, there comes a connection which results to communication; i.e. sharing information and from that exchange of information a goal is set. Interpersonal relationships helps build ourselves and our communities to be better than we were yesterday.
As all these thoughts were going through my mind, it kept me busy thinking of what I could do to make my tomorrow better than my yesterday by making use of my today. Before I knew it, I had arrived at the UBA Building in Marina. My only regret is that my shoes had to go through all these stress in its already weakened state! (smiles)...
All humans are rational beings so there is a continuous thinking, pondering and learning at every minute of the day. Once we stop doing these things, it means we are truly dead.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: NEVER STOP THINKING, NEVER STOP LEARNING, NEVER STOP EXPERIENCING LIFE!
WE CAN DO BETTER!
